S’il Vous Play: Shipping Crates in Faux Bois

For DesignPhiladelphia 2009, C.H. Briggs asked Philadelphia architects and designers to reimagine a public bench in Glacier White DuPont™ Corian©. Designer Kevin Derrick merged the manufactured material with an everyday object typically made from a natural material — the wooden shipping crate. The resulting bright-white, faux bois crate benches boast a remarkable amount of detailing, a testament to Corian’s versatility. R.D. Wing, the crates’ manufacturer, is also responsible for the back-lit window screen at DuPont Corian’s studio in Philadelphia’s Marketplace Design Center. They laser-etched the view from the studio’s windows onto a piece of Corian that is sliced so thin, it’s translucent. CT
