Mugshot Bookends
Walter and Margaux Kent (Peg and Awl), 2012
Reclaimed Oak, Tung Oil, Milk Paint
4" W x 8-1/4" H

Craft duo Walter and Margaux Kent describe their work as “making things out of old things.” Scavenging for the old things is part of their process. These Mugshot Bookends were inspired by 1930s criminal records in which the miscreants were, intriguingly, numbered but not named. The Kents stencil the silhouettes onto oak reclaimed from old shipping crates, then cut out the forms with a bandsaw, and glue them onto L-shaped backings. The criminals are then sanded and finished with black milk-paint. CT
